Skits, Raps & Poems for the School Counselor & CD

By David S. Young

(Grades 5-9) Kids love drama, love rap music, and will take a new look at poetry with this creative combination. Written to be presented independently, the lessons in this book give counselors the opportunity to incorporate a new “twist” into their guidance programs. The program includes:

Eight skits with a variety of topics that can turn a guidance program into a fun classroom presentation, an assembly presentation, a video presentation, or even a presentation at a parent meeting. The topics include: peer relations, impulse-control/anger, careers, character education, tobacco/alcohol/drugs, and test-taking skills.

Eight raps, which each include a complete lesson plan with accompanying activity sheets. Written in traditional and edited form, the raps blend into any population. The topics include careers, bullying, self-esteem, empathy, bus safety, and stress.

Eight poems, which can be presented as complete lessons or as part of a separate guidance lesson. The topics include: first day of school, winter and spring breaks, test-taking skills, and anger-management.

The arts are an important piece to a well-rounded education and this book offers counselors the opportunity to include these art forms into the guidance program without being a specialist in any of these fields. A variety of fun lessons with many reproducibles. The included CD features color PDF files of the songs, raps, skits, and activities. System requirements: Adobe Reader 5.0 or newer, Compatible with PC (Windows 2000 or newer) and Mac (OS 9.0 or newer).

Includes ASCA standards for the lessons.
