Great Group Skits

50 Character-Building Scenarios for Teens

By Lynn Grasberg and Gina Oldenburg

(Grades 6-12) Created by experts who teach improvisational theater, Great Group Skits is a resource for educators and youth workers looking to provide new and creative role-playing exercises for youth. Ranging from small pieces for a few people to large-scale skits that involve an entire class, this book will help educators engage with kids and help kids engage with each other. Rather than using line-by-line dialogue, these skits are designed as improvisational scenarios that give youth a starting point and let them decide where to go with it, enhancing their creativity, self-reliance, and analytical skills. Each skit is designed to be as prep-lite as possible, and includes an estimated time, ways to modify the skit for various age groups, and a list of follow-up questions designed to reinforce the lessons learned.

Also included is information on how to facilitate skits, getting kids motivated and energized, and creating your own skits. The skits are divided into categories that include:

  • Imagination
  • Teamwork
  • Communication skills
  • Motivation and leadership
  • Peer pressure and integrity
  • Conflict resolution
